US military: Soldier killed in restive Diyala province

A US soldier was killed Friday during an operation in Diyala province northeast of Baghdad, the military said in a statement. The soldier's name was not released pending notification of relatives. Another soldier was wounded in the attack and taken to a military hospital. At least 3,975 members of the US military have now died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes eight military civilians.
