One US soldier died and a second was wounded when their patrol came under fire in the southern outskirts of Baghdad, the US military reported Thursday. "In the past few weeks, the unit has conducted joint clearing operations with Iraqi forces, which have resulted in the detention of 16 suspected insurgents and the recovery of several weapons caches, including improvised explosive device making materials," the US military statement said. The soldier died on Tuesday. The soldier's name was not released because family had not been notified.
