US soldier killed by roadside bomb south of Baghdad

A US soldier was killed by a roadside bomb south of Baghdad, the military said Thursday. The soldier, assigned to Multi-National Division-Center, died as a result of wounds suffered Wednesday, the US military said in a statement. The soldier was dismounted, walking outside a military vehicle at the time of the blast, it said. The victim's name was withheld pending family notification. At least 3,859 members of the US military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
