US soldier killed in explosion near Baghdad

A US soldier was killed when an explosion near his vehicle during operations in Iraq's Salahuddin province, northwest of Baghdad, the US military said Sunday. The blast on Saturday wounded four other soldiers, the military said in a statement. It gave no details on the location or circumstances of the attack. The name of the slain soldier was withheld pending notification of his family. The death brings to 3,602 the number of members of the US military who have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
