A-G: No call for criminal investigation into Carmel fire

In response to charges made by family of prison guard killed in bus, Weinstein says no criminal investigation against PM, Yishai, Barak.

Attorney-General Yehuda Weinstein on Monday decided there is no evidence to justify opening a criminal investigation against the prime minister, defense minister, finance minister and interior minister in regard to last month's massive Carmel fire.
Weinstein was responding to charges made by the father and father-in-law of Topaz Even-Chen Klein, who was killed during the tragedy when the bus she was traveling in was engulfed in flames.

The attorney-general said that the matter was not criminal, but rather, public and parliamentary.
Weinstein did not completely rule out a criminal investigation into the government ministers' handling of the disaster in which 44 people were killed. He said that in the event that State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss shoud determine that the matter is criminal during the course of his investigation into the fire, he will pass his findings on to Weinstein.
Weinstein added in his letter to Commander (res) Zev Even-Chen and Haim Klein that he was sorry for the loss of Topaz.
