Jerusalem leads in the number of social entrepreneurs, based on an internal study by ROI Community, a global network of more than 700 Jewish innovators in more than 40 countries, created by American philanthropist Lynn Schusterman.
Jerusalem leads every other place, with 8.8 percent of the social innovators. New York and Tel Aviv tied for second place, with 7.7% each, ROI Community’s statistics revealed.
Within the ROI Community, there were 69 innovators and social entrepreneurs in Jerusalem, who launched or were involved in initiatives in Jewish education, social justice, business, environment, political activism, arts and culture, Jewish peoplehood, new media, intercommunal/ interfaith dialogue, technology, Israel advocacy, LGBTQ activism and incubating social entrepreneurship.
“Social innovators see an imperfect world, then take responsibility and immediately look for solutions,” said Justin Korda, ROI Community executive director. “From this perspective, Jerusalem is a perfect incubator for entrepreneurs seeking to fix their neighborhoods, their society and the world.”
