A man in his 50s was moderately wounded after a bomb attached to his car went off in Kiryat Gat on Sunday.
The man’s son, 11, narrowly escaped serious injury when he exited the vehicle seconds before the bomb went off, Channel 2 news said.
The shaken boy reportedly shouted out for his father after seeing him injured and lying on the sidewalk.
“This is likely a criminally motivated incident,” Lachish police said.
Large numbers of emergency vehicles arrived on the scene as police sealed off the street. The injured man was evacuated by paramedics to Beersheba’s Soroka Medical Center, which later said that the injured man was hospitalized in moderate to light condition.
The elite central unit of the Lachish police sub-district is leading the investigation.
Local residents said the blast caused a deafening explosion. Images taken from the scene showed a badly burned vehicle.
