Court to decide Eini’s challenger in Histadrut race
Internal Histadrut court previously ruled that Cabel couldn't rule because he hadn't paid monthly membership for year.

MK Eitan Cabel (Labor) will ask the Tel Aviv District Court on Monday afternoon to enable him to challenge Histadrut Labor Federation chief Ofer Eini for the chairmanship of the powerful union.An internal Histadrut court ruled last month that Cabel could not run because he had not paid his NIS 180 monthly membership dues for the past year before the race was initiated.Cabel, an active Histadrut member, said he did not pay by accident and has since paid the missing dues. Judge Gideon Gadot is expected to issue a ruling by the end of the week.“I am optimistic the court will let me run,” Cabel said.MK Amir Peretz (Labor), who is also a candidate, has said that if Cabel is permitted to run, he would drop out of the race and support his Knesset colleague in an effort to defeat Eini.If the court does not permit Cabel to run, it would set the stage for a showdown between Peretz and Eini, who was Peretz’s handpicked successor at the Histadrut and later became his political nemesis.Meanwhile, the Histadrut elections committee will meet this week with Peretz and Cabel to hear their defense against the committee’s charges that they forged signatures of hundreds of Histadrut members on forms enabling them to run.
