A 36-year-old man allegedly stabbed his wife to death and unsuccessfully attempted to take his own life by setting himself on fire in Beit She'an overnight Sunday.
According to police, the man fled the scene after killing his wife. When police arrived and approached him he swallowed a flammable liquid and poured it on his person as well. When he tried to ignite the liquid, police jumped on him, successfully preventing the self-immolation attempt.
The man was moderately injured in the incident and was admitted to the hospital under guard.
The couple are parents to three children, two of whom were home at the time of the murder, according to police.
Police stated that the murder victim had issued a complaint against her husband six years ago resulting in his arrest and indictment.
