The American Colony in Tel Aviv, established in 1866 by American settlers, has become a lucrative real-estate spot. As new projects are being built and older ones preserved, the American Colony is set to become a magnet for those who seek luxurious living and for investors interested in property that has a unique historical touch. The project leading the renewal of the American Colony is The Village. The colony is being transformed into a unique historical environment thanks to the preservation of about 70% of the buildings on site (including the Park Hotel and the Jerusalem Hotel), which were built in the American and Templer eras. It is the highest concentrated area in Israel slated for preservation on a limited 30 dunam piece of land. The Village is a country-style, yet urban complex situated in an historical location, which stands out among the multiple luxury high-rise apartment buildings currently under construction in Tel Aviv. The project will include three buildings with two floors and an attic, which will blend in with the rest of the colony's historical structures. It is located adjacent to Neveh Tzedek and the renovated train station that is expected to open in approximately two months. The project, scheduled to be completed by the end of 2011, will re-ignite the colony's glamor and turn it into one of the most unique neighborhoods in Tel Aviv-Jaffa. Once the project is completed and the Tel Aviv Municipality finishes upgrading the area's infrastructure, the colony will become a center for luxurious and cultural living in an historical ambiance. The Village will be built on an area of over 3,000 square meters and will include 23 housing units - both garden apartments and penthouses. An Israeli garden will be built in the center of the project within a 1000-square meter space - an unusual scope of green in an urban environment. Among some of the indulgences the project offers are a naturally lit swimming pool, a wine cellar, a lucrative spa and an advanced fitness room. In addition, the project's residents will be provided with an underground parking spot. The vast apartments are characterized by top-notch features: fancy kitchens, Israeli stone flooring, advanced communications systems, central air-conditioning, private yards and so on. Kimmel-Eshkolot Architects were hired for the planning of this project. According to Dror Koren, CEO of the Darinel Group: "From the point of view of the tenants and the investors, we are talking about an excellent long-term investment. The residences in the American colony provide the residents with a unique living experience. Although the colony is in the preliminary stages of reconstruction, it is still impressive. Investors will find good reason to purchase property in the colony. Once construction work ceases at the site adjacent to the colony, it will become a must-see for visitors and tourists. Undoubtedly, the American colony is the next "hot" place in Tel Aviv and the future of real estate price increases in Neve Tzedek." History The American colony was established by 157 Christian settlers who arrived from Maine in 1866. These people believed that their settlement here would prepare the Holy Land for the return of the Jews to their homeland. The settlers built 10 houses in the colony in addition to the Grand Hotel. The disassembled wooden homes arrived from the US. The Grand hotel became the Jerusalem Hotel in time. After approximately 2 years, the settlers left the colony and were replaced by the Templers who arrived from Haifa, and the colony became a stepping stone for the founding of Sharona, Viland, Bnei Atarot and the German Colony in Jerusalem. The colony flourished in these years which led to the purchase of the community center by the Russian baron Yustinov who refurbished it and turned it into the Hotel du Park - in which the German Chancellor William II and his wife were hosted as guests of the 'prophet of the State' Benjamin Zev Herzl.
