Alice Shlesinger: Judo - 63kg

Alice Shlesinger entered April's European Championships with one goal - to win a medal and qualify for the Beijing Olympics. Any other result would have seen her miss out on the Games, but the 20-year-old claimed the bronze medal in what was her final chance to qualify for Beijing, defeating Britain's Sarah Clark. Shlesinger only made the switch from junior to senior competitions last year. Her results at junior level were nothing short of outstanding. She won the gold at the 2007 European Junior Championships and the bronze at the World Junior Championships in 2005. The expectations of her in Beijing are relatively low and, as long as she doesn't lose her first round fight, the Games will be regarded as another successful stepping stone on the way to her target Olympics in London in 2012.
