European basketball may still be three months away, but Ironi Nahariya, Maccabi Rishon Lezion and Hapoel Galil Elyon-Golan have already found out their opponents in their respective FIBA Europe competitions. Nahariya was drawn on Sunday into Group A of the EuroCup against Ploiesti of Romania, Dijon of France and Estudiantes of Spain. In Group D, Rishon will play Girona of Spain, Gravelines of France and BC Siauliai of Lithuania. The main attraction of the draw will be the return of former Maccabi Tel Aviv star Ariel McDonald to Israel. McDonald plays for Girona, which will likely be Rishon's toughest challenge. Nahariya will also face a tough Spanish team when it plays Estudiantes. The first round of EuroCup games will take place on November 7, and the top two teams from each group will advance to the next round. Galil Elyon will play in Group A of the EuroCup Challenge against Czech club Prostejov, Apollon Limassol of Cyprus and Olympias Patras of Greece. Galil was pleased with the draw, as all three teams are expected to be relatively weak opponents. "We are very happy with the draw," said Galil official Amit Gal. "We are going for the cup." Galil opens its European campaign on November 9.
