For the first time ever, an Israeli cricket team will visit India beginning Monday. Fourteen players and three officials are due to fly out on Sunday night to Mumbai, where they will be the official guests of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which has taken a great interest in the Israeli association. The eight-day trip is the result of close ties developed between the two countries on the diplomatic front and this trip has the full backing of the Indian Embassy in Israel. The BCCI has committed itself to helping the development of cricket worldwide in Associate Member countries. The Israel squad is the nucleus of the under-19 side that will take part in the European championships later this year. The team is scheduled to play five practice games at the famous Wankhede Stadium and at the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) Complex at Bandar Kurla. The squad will also have special training under the auspices of the MCA, which will assist the youngsters in all aspects of the game. Stanley Perlman, the chairman of the Israel Cricket Association, is extending an invitation to the BCCI to tour Israel later this year.
