Hapoel Gilboa/Galil won its BSL home opener on Monday night, defeating Ironi Ashkelon 83-73 at Gan Ner to improve to 2-1 on the season.

After losing its season opener at Maccabi Tel Aviv, the reigning champions got their first win at Maccabi Haifa last week, and they led throughout Monday’s encounter on their way to the victory.

Gilboa stormed to a 51- 33 lead at the break and held off Ashkelon’s valiant efforts in the second half for a second straight win.

Dagan Yavzuri led Gilboa with 19 points, with Gal Mekel adding 11 points, 11 assists and 7 rebounds.

Rashon Turner had 18 points and eight rebounds for Ashkelon, which fell to 0-3 on the young season.
