Israel Football Association chairman Avi Luzon hit a new low on Monday after the IFA's legal advisor, attorney Moshe Avivi, decided to prosecute him for his behavior during a youth match two weeks ago. Referee Liran Zilberman claimed in his match report from the youth encounter between Maccabi Petah Tikva and Hapoel Kfar Saba that Luzon shouted towards him "coward, garbage, zero" and that when he looked at him the chairman said: "what are you looking at, you coward? You are a piece of garbage". Zilberman's report left Avivi and IFA prosecutor Shalom Eban-Ezra with no real choice and for the first time in IFA history the chairman will stand trial. Luzon, whose son Yitav is part of the Petah Tikva youth team coaching staff, has denied Zilberman's claims and said on Monday that he will prove his innocence in court. Since taking charge of the IFA Luzon has caused more than his fare share of controversy. After Maccabi Petah Tikva survived in the Premier League in May, he lashed out at all the "evil people" who wanted his club to get relegated, forgetting that he is the man in charge of Israeli soccer as a whole. A couple weeks later Luzon found himself in the headlines once more when his nephew Guy was almost appointed as the Israel youth coach despite his relative lack of experience.
