Following a first half of play in which Macccabi Tel Aviv started off very strong, taking a 7-0 lead, the defending champs lost focus as CSKA Moscow forced the yellows into nine turnovers and limited Maccabi to 10-for-28 shooting. The score at halftime was 35-30 in favor of the Russians, who frustrated Maccabi with a smothering zone defense, which allowed them to go on a 13-0 run in the second quarter.
