Shahar Pe'er crashed out of the Qatar Telecom German Open in Berlin on Wednesday, losing 6-2, 7-6 (2) to Martina Muller of Germany in the second round. Pe'er, who is ranked No. 15 in the world and was seeded 13th in the $1,340,000 Tier I event, put up a fight for two hours. She reached 10 break points during the match, but never gave herself a chance of winning by converting just three of them. Muller took advantage of five of her nine break points thanks to her high first-serve percentage (76 percent). Muller broke serve in the first game of the match and opened a 5-1 lead with a love service game. After losing the first set 6-2, Pe'er got off to a good start in the second set and had an excellent chance to take a 2-0 lead. But she squandered five break points in the second game of the set and paid the price by being broken in the next game. Pe'er broke back immediately and the set had to be decided on a tiebreaker.
