Peres meets with Israeli Olympic team in Beijing

President Shimon Peres on Thursday met with the Israel Olympic Team in the Olympic Village in Beijing to wish them well and told them that the Olympics are the most non-racist event in the world. Color, creed and nationality made no difference, said Peres. It was simply a matter of who could go faster or higher. Peres reminded the team that although Jews had often suffered discrimination in many places, they came to the Olympics as equals. Peres sought out swimmer Alon Mandel, whose father died on Wednesday when he fell off a ladder while adjusting a light bulb. and spoke to him for a long time.
