Rio Ferdinand named Peres Center sports ambassador

England and Manchester United star visits Peres Center twinned soccer schools sports program from Yeruham and Abu-Tor.

England and Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand was named as the first soccer player to become a sports ambassador for the Peres Center for Peace while on a trip to Israel last week. On Thursday, Ferdinand paid a visit to a Peres Center twinned soccer schools sports program from Yeruham and Abu-Tor where he met young Israeli and Palestinian children. The former West Ham center back received a team flag from the children and discussed how they get to know each other through soccer.. Later Thursday, Ferdinand expressed his excitement about his talk with the children. He explained that he was especially impressed by their ability to put aside their conflicts and simply be friends and play football together. As a sports ambassador for peace for the Peres Center, Ferdinand follows in the footsteps of Portugal, and Chelsea, coach Felipe Scolari and Inter Milan coach Jose Mourinho.
