Dudi Sela produced the biggest upset of his career on Thursday, knocking former champion and fourth-seeded Andy Roddick out of the Queen’s Club tournament in London in the round of 16, 6-4, 7-6(8).

After a poor clay court season, the 25-year-old from Kiryat Shmona finally appears to be rediscovering the form which took him to the fourth round at Wimbledon last year.

Sela, currently ranked 63 in the world, was in control for the vast majority of his match against Roddick (7).

The Israeli broke in the third game of the first set and then overcame his opponent’s comeback attempts to hold on and serve out for the set.

The second set was far tighter, but Roddick was nowhere near has best at the crucial moments and Sela took control at the end of the tiebreak to win it 10-8.

Sela, seeded 14 at Queens Club, will next face Germany’s Rainer Schuettler, who had a walkover when 11th-seeded Richard Gasquet withdrew with a back injury.

It was  Roddick’s earliest exit from the Wimbledon warmup event since losing in the first round in 2001. He lost last years in the Wimbledon final to Roger Federer.

Sela will next face Germany’s Rainer Schuettler, who  easily dispatched Richard Gasquet.

Later Thursday, top-seeded Rafael Nadal survived a battle with Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-4.

Sam Querrey and Feliciano Lopez also advanced Thursday.
