Yevgeniya Zabolotniy improved on her national hammer throw record by nearly a meter at a track & field meet late Saturday night at Hadar Yosef.
The 21-year-old recorded a 49.28 throw to easily best her previous mark, 48.29-m, set in March. This marks the third time that Zabolotniy has improved the Israeli record since she first set it in February. Her steady improvement gives Israel Athletics Association officials hope that she can break the 50-meter barrier at the Israeli Championships in July.
At the same meet, Ayele Seteng claimed his 31st national title by wining the Israeli Championship in the 10,000 meters. Seteng crossed the finish line in 29 minutes, 55.10 seconds, to beat his rival Asaf Bimro (30:23.20).
Mickey Bar-Yehoshua (10.73) and Svetlana Gnezdilov (12.50) won the men's and women's 100 meters.
Other notable results included Sivan Jean's 15.46-meter throw in the women's shot put, Shai Shalev's 16.89-m in the men's equivalent, and Yohai Halevi's 7.36-m in the long jump. Yoav Schuster and young Gabriel Paz both cleared 2.00-m in the high jump.
