The US State Department said that Russia and Syria are attempting to "sanitize" the site where the chemical weapons attack is said to have taken place.
In the coming days, preparedness in the north of Israel is likely to be particularly high, given the possibility of retaliatory action from Syria and the chance of a US strike on Syria.

UN war crimes investigators had previously documented 33 chemical attacks in Syria, attributing 27 to the Assad government, which has repeatedly denied using the weapons.
The Syrian government and its key ally Russia have denied involvement in the attack on Douma.
Israel has not confirmed or denied mounting the raid, but has repeatedly refused to accept Iranian military presence in Syria.
An Israeli military spokesman said he had no immediate comment.
His comments came after a chemical attack in the rebel-held city of Douma was apparently carried out by the Syrian regime, leaving dozens of people dead.
