Delta Airlines plans to launch a daily flight between Tel Aviv and New York, a route it believes will add 100,000 seats annually. The company has been operating a daily flight between Tel Aviv and Atlanta for more than two years. Delta received permission to operate another central route after 620,000 North American tourists visited Israel last year, up 10 percent from 2006. El Al also has announced plans to expand operation on its Tel Aviv-New York route. The Tourism Ministry reported that beginning March 26, the Italian carrier Opera Romana will start operating six weekly flights to Israel from Rome and Verona, two of which will land in Eilat. Weekly charter flights from Sicily, Paris, London, Helsinki and Stockholm are scheduled to start operating in the near future.
