Cameri salutes Shalom Aleichem
The Cameri Theater will host a four-day celebration of performance, lecture and discussion dedicated to the author who wrote in Yiddish.
To go along with its revival of Fiddler on the Roof, the much-loved musical based on Shalom Aleichem's tales of Tevye the milkman, the Cameri Theater will host a four-day celebration of performance, lecture and discussion dedicated to the author who wrote in Yiddish, the then-lingua franca of the Jewish people.
On May 21, there will be a performance of Ikar Shachahti (I Forgot the Main Thing), performed and directed by Michael Teplitzky with Esti Svidanski in the Theater Café. On May 22 at the same venue, there will be a lecture on Tevye onscreen with excerpts. Shalom Aleichem's enduring popularity will be the subject of discussion in the Café Theater and on Saturday morning, author and translator Dan Almagor will host a performance salute to Shalom Aleichem's works including Fiddler, Mottel, the Cantor's Son and many more.
