By HELEN KAYETheater Review 88(photo credit: )The Ballad of Three Prophets, a new collaboration between composer Ella Milch-Sheriff and author Nava Semel, will have its world premiere at the Szczecin International Choral Festival on May 8, our Independence Day. On May 7, the eve of Independence Day, there'll be another world premiere, Milch-Sheriff's Fanfare for Orchestra, commissioned and performed by the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra conducted by Leon Botstein.
The third event is the Israeli premiere in Petah Tikva on May 3 of Nigiyot (Touches), a work for violist Christoph Langenheim and violinist Hagit Halaf that they commissioned and that had its premiere in Italy last year.
Ballad was written for and will be performed by the Moran Choir conducted by Naomi Paran. Semel's text and Milch's music are an anthem to brotherhood among the world's three major religions, Judaism, Christianity and Islam, represented by Moses, Jesus and Muhammad. Each verse ends with a prayer for eternal repose sung, respectively, in Hebrew, Latin and Arabic.
