Arab-American credits Sandler with her big break

Arab American comedian Maysoon Zayid says she credits her Jewish American counterpart Adam Sandler with shattering stereotypes and giving her a big break into Hollywood. Zayid debuted in Sandler's "You Don't Mess with the Zohan," which opens in some European cities this month. Sandler plays a wacky Israeli commando who fakes his own death to pursue his dream of becoming a hairstylist in New York. Zayid, a Palestinian who suffers from cerebral palsy, plays a salon employee. She tells The Associated Press that "a Jewish American actor took a risk on a disabled actress when no one else does that in Hollywood." Zayid says the film has led to "more projects where Arab men and women are portrayed as human beings, rather than as caricatures."
