If it hadn't been for the encouragement of the great Doctor Johnson, Oliver Goldsmith's now classic comedy "She Stoops to Conquer" might never have seen a stage. As it turned out, even King George III came to see it on May 5, 1773.
Now the Hadassah Center Stage Theater is doing a spring production of "She Stoops," directed by Shannon Kisch.
It's all about manners, muddles, mistakes and what happens one night when a couple of young London gentlemen come to the country to woo their maidens and find their fortunes. Of course it all ends happily, but not before ears get boxed, tempers get ruffled and pride gets poked. Performances at Mercaz Hamagshimim are March 23, 25, 28, 29 and April 3, 4, 6, 8.
