Kinetic Poetry Pilobolus Dance Theater USA TAPAC November 11 On their fifth visit to Israel, Pilobolus, one of America's most successful touring companies, presented an evening of four works that cover a span of 30 years. All of them carry their recognizable mark of plotless, physical, athletic dance. Their virtuosic acrobatics cleverly deploy the mechanics of human movement with humor. Influenced by the contact-improvisation experiments that sprouted in the Sixties, Pilobolus went further and introduced their highly sophisticated athletic style. It hasn't changed much in the last 35 years. They still produce relatively short works that deal with all the fabulous shapes, forms and images that two or more bodies can produce when using each other as support to defy gravity. The dancers are exceptionally strong and this group performs the stunts as well as previous ones. But the novelty is not there anymore and their original modern dance genre had suffered from years of frequent use which somewhat tarnished its brilliance. Even so, seeing any of Pilobolus performances comes with a guarantee for a colorful evening of excellent entertainment.
