On Thursday, November 17, 2005, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev will confer an Honorary Doctoral Degree upon renowned French film producer and director Claude Lelouch.
The ceremony is being held as part of the "Jewish Eye" World Jewish Film Festival being held in Beer-Sheva from November 16 - 24, 2005. University President Prof. Avishay Braverman saluted the Festival's organizers decision to bring the event to the Negev.
Son of Algerian Jewish immigrants to France, Claude Lelouch started making movies in his teens. Winner of a prestigious Palm d'Or and a Grand Prix Award at the Cannes Film Festival and two Academy Awards for Best Original Screenplay and Best Foreign Film for A Man and a Woman, Lelouch has figured prominently as one of the most popular and influential filmmakers in Europe.
