In a period of heightened regional tensions, the people of Iran are being kept safe - from Reese Witherspoon. Agence Presse-France reported last week that the Islamic Republic had shut down nine movie and lifestyle magazines, with the publications accused of "publishing photographs of corrupt foreign artists and details about their decadent lives." In addition to the Legally Blonde actress, stars appearing in the offending issues of the magazines included Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts. The government's media watchdog group also criticized the publications for "publishing advertising for forbidden medicines and articles that were contrary to morality and offensive to the ethnic minorities," according to the ISNA student news agency. Thirteen other publications received warnings about their content. Dozens of others have been shut down in recent years.
