Griffin gets here… at last.

Griffin gets here… at last If there's any truth to the adage that the good things are worth waiting for, then Johnny Griffin is the real McCoy. The 77-year-old American jazz saxophonist was due to make his first appearance in this country three months ago but health problems kept him close to his home in the south of France. Thankfully, Griffin is back in the pink again and is now fit to appear at Tel Aviv's Zappa Club this week with a stellar band including fellow e'migre' American pianist Kirk Lightsey. Over the last half century-plus Griffin has mixed it with some of the icons of modern jazz, including energetic hardbop drummer Art Blakey and bebop founding father pianist Thelonious Monk. This week he'll be here to share some of his accrued artistic experience with us for the first time. The Johnny Griffin band will perform at the Zappa Club in Tel Aviv on December 14 at 7:30 p.m. and 10:15 p.m., and on December 16 at 7:45 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. For more information call: 03-6499550. - Barry Davis Making the Connection The French Connection is the title for an evening of the newest on the French contemporary dance scene with four works by avant-garde choreographer/performers. Their combined talents represent the developments of the last 30 years, and the works themselves explore. The French Connection is at the Suzanne Dellal Dance Center in Tel Aviv and at the Ma'abada in Jerusalem from December 14-17. - Helen Kaye
