Toyota to recall another 1.5 m. cars worldwide

Avalon, Lexus and Highlander models affected by recall; company says recall due to minor brake system fault and problems with fuel pumps.

Toyota announced on Wednesday that it would recall more than 1.5 million cars worldwide over brake and fuel pump defects.
The Japanese carmaker said the decision would affect the Avalon model and other cars, including 740,000 cars in the US and 600,000 in Japan.

The fault could cause the brake pedal to feel spongey, and braking performance to "gradually decline".
The US recall affects 2005-06 Avalon cars, 2004-06 Highlander (non Hybrid) and Lexus RX330 cars, and 2006 Lexus GS300, IS250, and IS350 cars, according to the company's press release.
After Toyota's recall of more than 32,000 vehicles in Israel in the beginning of the year, Union Motors, the official importer of the Japanese automaker in Israel, on in February announced an additional recall of 1,335 Prius cars because of problems with the antilock brake system.
Only Prius vehicles produced since May 2009 and all 2010 Lexus HS 250h vehicles were subject to the recall.
