The Israel Chamber Orchestra this season is performing three virtually unknown operas by Mozart.

Among the 626 pieces composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, 237 - some 40 percent of the entire oeuvre - were written for vocal music in all its variety, from a cappella to opera.
To mark the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth, Rishon Lezion Symphony Orchestra hosts the Moran Choir this afternoon at 1 at the city's Heichal Hatarbut. The long-established youth choir, conducted by Naomi Faran, will present excerpts from Mozart's melodic legacy, including rounds and arias from The Magic Flute and Don Giovanni.
NUMEROUS EVENTS are scheduled to mark the anniversary year here, many of which sponsored by the Austrian Cultural Forum in Tel Aviv. They include a festival of chamber music in Jerusalem and a staging of the Magic Flute by the New Israeli Opera.
"Our aim was to support everything which allows an innovative interpretation of Mozart," says Dr. Mario Vielgrader, director of the Austrian Cultural Forum. He promises a black light puppet theater production, as well as a concert of an Austrian artist performing Mozart melodies on GameBoys.
