The New Israeli Vocal Ensemble, founded by Yuval Ben-Ozer in 1994, presents two choral programs during the holiday season, entitled Voices of Winter. The first is devoted to choral music for Christmas, with excerpts from The Messiah by Handel, the Christmas Oratorios by both Bach and Saint-Saens, St. John's Passion by Bach and Four Motets by Poulenc.
Francis Poulenc was one of six composer whom the music critic Henri Collet in 1920 named Les Six , known for drawing much of their inspiration from Parisian folklore - street musicians, music halls and circus bands. After the death of a close friend in 1936, Poulenc rediscovered religious faith and wrote many sacred works. These motets date from 1952.
The second program will be devoted entirely to the Petite Messe Solennelle by Gioachino Rossini.
The concerts take place in Haifa's St. John's Church in the Wadi Nisnas neighborhood, Nir Eliyahu at Eden on the Water, the Or Akiva Cultural Center, Tel Aviv's Einav Cultural Center, as well as a performance at Camelot Herzliya as part of its efforts to bring classical music into the more intimate atmosphere of a club.
