Bass guitar fans are going to have plenty to be happy about over the next couple weeks with the arrival of Yossi Fine for a 10-date tour (December 7-23). The Israeli bassist left these shores five years ago for a second sojourn in New York. The trans-Atlantic move appears to have worked, with collaborations with the likes of pop-rock titans David Bowie and Lou Reed and a bevy of jazz frontliners such as funk-oriented guitarists John Scofield, Stanley Jordan and Jaco Pastorius now on Fine's resume.

Though he's appeared earlier with his band, this time around Fine will play solo at all his gigs, except for a one-time synergy with the Apples jazz-funk group at Tel Aviv's Zappa Club on December 13. After all his big production ventures, the bassman says he is enjoying exploring the possibilities of the minimalist approach. Still, he won't be entirely on his own as technology allows him to enhance his bass guitar output with all kinds of electronic loops and a wide range of amplified sonic textures. The Be'er Pub, Kibbutz Ze'elim on December 7 at 10 p.m.; Bir A-Shagum at Givat Yoav on December 8 at 10 p.m.; Jerusalem's Yellow Submarine on December 9 at 10 p.m.; Abraxas in Tel Aviv on December 10 at midnight; the Zappa Club in north Tel Aviv on December 13 at 10 p.m., with The Apples; Patria on Kibbutz Dan on December 14 at 10:30 p.m.; Havat HaHayot in Tivon on December 16 at 9 p.m.; Haifa's Martef 10 on December 21 at 10 p.m.; Hemdat Hyammim on December 22 at 10 p.m.; and Tel Aviv's Barby Club on December 23 at 10 p.m.
