It's been 70 years since the great Italian conductor Arturo Toscanini led the first concert of the Israeli Philharmonic on December 26, 1936. It has also been 50 years since he passed away. To mark his passing and continue in the IPO's 70th year celebrations, the Italian embassy has flown in Toscanini's granddaughter, Contesa Imanuella de Castelberco (pictured above), as a guest of honor for a gala event. Maestro Ricardo Muti (above) will conduct a program that includes Mozart's Concerto for two pianos and Schubert's Symphony No. 9. Pianists Itamar Golan and Saleem Aboud Eshkar will also be featured. The concert will take place at the Tel Aviv Cultural Center (Heichal HaTarbut) tonight at 8:30pm.
