In honor of Israel's 60th birthday, the four-year-old Spirit of Europe Chamber Orchestra (SECO) returns to Israel for three concerts on July 2, 3 and 5. Conducted by Israeli-born Nissan Ronen, the orchestra will present percussionist Chen Zimbalista as soloist for the world premiere of Benjamin Yusupov's Con Moto for marimba and orchestra, together with music by Haydn, Mozart and Viktor Ullman. Based at Melk on the Danube in Lower Austria, the 35-member SECO draws its young players mainly from Austria, Hungary and the Slovak and Czech republics. The group first played here in 2006. Concerts will be held in Nazareth, Jerusalem and Herzliya. Proceeds will benefit the Schneider Children's Medical Center for Israel. The visit is being sponsored by the Austrian embassy, and Austrian ambassador Michael Rendi will be at the gala.
