Violinist Ida Haendel will be the guest of honor at Classical Winter in Eilat from February 23-25, a brand new international chamber music festival sponsored by the Eilat municipality. Haendel (b.1924) is a musical legend who made her London debut in 1937. She will play with iPalpiti, an ensemble of musicians aged 19-30 from some 20 different countries, all winners of international competitions. They play under the banner of Young International Artists, an organization devoted to the support of struggling young musicians of which Haendel is honorary president. The festival program, according to artistic director Leonid Rosenberg, "enables an encounter between the older generation and the glorious tradition it represents, and the younger musicians that are the hope of the future." Haendel is slated to play a Sarasate serenade on the Friday at 7:30. For more information go to: www.z-festivals.co.il/chamber-eilat.
