A security consultant has collected and published the details of 100m facebook users, the BBC reported on Thursday.
Ron Bowes was able to scan Facebook profiles using a piece of code which allowed him to collect any data that individuals had not hidden under their privacy settings. He then shared the list of data, which quickly spread across the internet. The downloadable file contained a high number of individual user profile URL's as well as their name and ID.
Facebook issued a statement to the BBC, saying that the information collected information was already public and in existence on the net. The social networking site has more than 500 million users.
