2 e. J'lem Arabs arrested for harassing cemetery mourners

Two east Jerusalem Arabs who were self-employed tombstone cleaners at a Givat Shaul cemetery were arrested after harassing mourners, police said Monday.

According to suspicions, in the past months, the two approached bereaved family members and requested in a threatening manner to clean the graves of those they were visiting in return for money. Those who refused, were chased and threatened with physical violence.

A month-and-a-half ago, the two were arrested on similiar charges and were prohibited from entering the cemetery. When the police order prohibiting them from entering the cemetery ended, according to suspicions, the two returned and continued as they had previously.

The two men were arrested a second time and brought to court for trial. They were released on two conditions: that they would not enter the cemetery grounds for 90 days and that they would not make contact with the complainants for 90 days.

Police are seeking an expedited indictment.
