Four police officers were sentenced to one year in prison after the Supreme Court rejected their appeal on Monday morning. The officers were accused of conducting a campaign of revenge against criminals.
In his decision, Judge Salim Jobran wrote, "Extra-judicial actions by police officers damages human dignity and human rights and has a critical effect on the public's faith in the police."
Following the verdict, a defense lawyer for one of the officers was quoted as saying, "I did not have big expectations," but had hoped for a different verdict.
