A-G orders police to open investigation against former chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi over Harpaz Affair

Attorney-General Yehuda Weinstein on Thursday ordered police to open an investigation against former chief of General Staff Lt.- Gen. (res.) Gabi Ashkenazi regarding the case of Boaz Harpaz.
The IDF had launched an internal investigation after the Harpaz Document was leaked to the press in 2010 and was forged to look like a roadmap for getting former OC Southern Command Maj.-Gen. (res.) Yoav Galant appointed as chief of staff.
But new evidence presented by the IDF's legal division on Thursday convinced Weinstein that the charges against Ashkenazi were serious enough to instruct police to open up a larger investigation on more serious charges.
When Harpaz was first identified as the person who allegedly forged the document, Ashkenazi denied he had a prior relationship with the former Military Intelligence lieutenant-colonel.
