Ashkenazi: National service mandatory for every 18-year-old

IDF Chief of General Staff Lt.- Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi announced that every 18-year-old who does not take up mandatory service in the IDF will serve at the police, Magen David Adom, the fire service or the organization Zaka through the national service model, Israel Radio reported Sunday.

At the IDF induction base speaking to August combat recruits, Ashekenazi called for mandatory service for every Israeli citizen 18-years-old, including Arabs and Haredis whose population continue to grow.
