Asian football leader travels to North Korea for talks

SEOUL, South Korea — Mohamed Bin Hammam, Asian Football confederation president, has traveled to North Korea for two days of talks.

The Asian football leader arrived Sunday in the North Korean capital, Pyongyang, with two other AFC officials, an AFC spokesman said Monday.

Bin Hammam met Monday with North Korean vice parliamentary speaker Yang Hyong Sop, Pyongyang's state media said. The official Korean Central News Agency dispatch did not say what the two discussed.

Bin Hammam also toured accommodations for the North Korean national football team built as part of FIFA's Goal Program, and top North Korean football official Ri Ryong Nam joined a ceremony Monday marking the completion of the building's construction, KCNA said.

Bin Hammam, who is from Qatar, was also to meet Sports Minister Pak Myong Chol before flying to China later Monday.

North Korea last month contested its first World Cup since 1966, but was eliminated in the group stage in South Africa after losing all three preliminary matches.
