At least 95,000 Muslims visit J'lem for Ramadan prayers

At least 95,000 people, many from the West Bank, took part in the first Friday prayers of this year's Ramadan month at the Haram Ash-Sharif (Hebrew: Har Habayit, or Temple Mount) Army Radio reported. Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims, who spend daytime hours fasting.
Thousands of police and border policemen were deployed throughout Jerusalem to maintain security as the heavy influx of Muslims came to the holy site to pray.
Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharanovich said Friday that this year's Ramadan would likely be uneventful and quiet for the country's police forces.
