Baby girl dies at birth allegedly from 'knot in cord'

The Health Ministry will set up an external investigation committee to look into the death Monday of a baby girl during her birth at Western Galilee Government Hospital in Nahariya. The hospital said that its own initial investigation showed that the medical team "acted properly" and that the problem was a "real knot" in the umbilical cord that prevented the fetus from getting oxygen. The hospital administration expressed its condolences to the family but said there was no basis to the allegations of "negligence."
