Bahrain moves ahead with 'coup plot' trial

Judicial authorities in Bahrain are moving ahead after a nearly two-month impasse with the trial of 25 Shiite activists accused of plotting against the Gulf nation's Sunni rulers.
Judge Ibrahim al-Zayed ordered testimony to resume on Thursday. The highly sensitive trial had been stalled since early December when the entire defense team quit to protest alleged torture against their clients. The court appointed replacement attorneys even though they have been rejected by the detainees.
The suspects are accused of trying to undermine Bahrain's minority Sunni dynasty that rules the tiny island kingdom that is key Western ally.
