Bar-Lev takes vacation, removes self from police chief race

Police Cmdr. Uri Bar Lev, who is battling to clear his name after being accused of sexually offenses against two women, has taken a vacation and has ruled himself out of the race for next police chief on Sunday morning.
Bar Lev, who strenuously denies committing the offenses, notified Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch of the steps.In light of Bar Lev's actions, Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein notified Aharonovitch that a freeze previously placed on the appointment process for next police chief is no longer in effect, and that the minister was now free to appoint a new police inspector general.
