Bike to Work Day March 25

Thousands of Jerusalemites are expected to leave their cars at home and bike to work on Sunday, March 25, for Jerusalem’s first annual Bike to Work Day.
Jerusalem mayor Nir Barkat will bike from his home in the Beit HaKerem neighborhood to his office at Safra Square along with bike activists and the organizers of Jerusalem’s Bike Festival, Festigalgal, which takes place on March 30.
“Bike riding is healthy for the body and also for the environment,” Barkat said in a statement released by his office. “I call on all residents of Jerusalem, young and old, women and men, public officials, businesspeople, students, and everyone whose believes in the future to give their car a rest and to go everywhere by bicycle in a safe, enjoyable, and healthy manner,” he said.
According to the municipality, employees who bike to work use fewer sick days, are more alert, and live ten years longer than average.
