China to play nice at Asian security meeting

HANOI, Vietnam — China is expected to play nice as it gathers with Asian neighbors, the US and other countries for a security meeting in Vietnam amid tensions over Beijing's recent attempts to assert more control over disputed territory on the high seas.
Several countries in the region have expressed concern over increasingly aggressive maritime moves by the communist giant, including events surrounding a boat collision last month in the East China Sea that plunged relations between China and Japan to a five-year low.
Defense ministers from the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations, along with their counterparts from United States, China, Japan and five other nations are meeting Tuesday in Vietnam's capital.
